In a drone attack on a crowded area near the courthouse in northern Kordofan, Sudan, ۱۳ people lost their lives and ۲۲ others were injured. This attack clearly reflects the increasing tensions and clashes between the rapid response forces and the Sudanese army, which have been at war since April ۲۰۲۳.
Details of the Attack
Eyewitnesses report that at the time of the attack, the area around the courthouse was filled with people conducting their legal and administrative affairs. One local resident said, "I was near the courthouse and saw the drone hit a tree outside the building. The sound of the explosion was very loud, and people quickly rushed to help the injured." He also added that some individuals at the scene lost their lives.
This attack occurred while Oum Al-Rawaba, a strategic city considered a central point between central and western Sudan, remains under army control. This year, drone attacks, especially from both warring sides, have claimed the lives of over ۱,۱۰۰ people, and estimates suggest that more than ۲۰۰,۰۰۰ have died since the war began.
Consequences of the War and Humanitarian Crisis
The war in Sudan is becoming one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world. Millions of people have been displaced due to these conflicts, and diplomatic efforts to resolve this crisis have been severely unsuccessful for humanitarian reasons. Kordofan has become a strategic battleground, linking army-controlled areas in central Sudan with the vast Darfur region.
Analysts say that the increased presence of rapid response forces on the eastern borders with Ethiopia, as well as their attacks on the Blue Nile region, have raised concerns about the expansion of conflicts into new areas. The United Nations has also repeatedly warned about the increasing use of drones and other advanced weapons, emphasizing that this trend will have serious consequences for civilians.
Meanwhile, calls for international action to prevent the continuation of the war and support for civilians have intensified. While some countries are clearly providing military support in favor of the Sudanese army, the continuation of this situation will only lead to increased tensions and worsening humanitarian conditions.
