Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has recently announced a reduction of ۴۰۰۰ jobs in light of the increasing challenges in the automotive industry. Challenges Facing JLR
In recent months, Jaguar Land Rover has faced issues such as a cyber attack and heavy export tariffs, which have significantly impacted the company's production and profitability. JLR's CEO, PB Balaji, stated in a statement that the company is seeking to achieve savings of £۱.۷ billion and plans to introduce five new products to the market in the next ۱۲ months.
According to Balaji, "The automotive industry is facing significant challenges, including technological changes and intense competition alongside geopolitical uncertainties." These remarks reflect the ongoing pressures on JLR and other major automakers globally.
Impact of the Cyber Attack
The cyber attack last year, which halted JLR's production in the UK for more than a month, incurred a cost of £۲۶۰ million to the company. This financial crisis has forced JLR to restructure and make fundamental changes to its organization. Given that the majority of the company's employees are based in the UK, it is expected that most of the reductions will occur in this country.
Currently, the UK Trade Minister is set to meet with JLR officials to discuss these job reductions. Balaji emphasized, "We are approaching this matter with care and respect and are committed to supporting affected employees."
This decision appears to be part of a larger trend in the automotive industry, as Volkswagen has also recently announced plans to cut ۱۰۰,۰۰۰ jobs by the end of this decade. As automakers shift towards new technologies and electric vehicles, these changes could signify a fundamental re-evaluation of how this industry operates.
