In light of rising security threats and new global challenges, French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stressed the need to strengthen Europe’s space sector. These two high-ranking European officials discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the space domain during their recent meeting in Brussels, highlighting the importance of this sector in ensuring the security of the continent.
New Challenges in Space
Macron and von der Leyen specifically referred to challenges posed by non-European countries. In this context, the space activities of China and Russia were cited as examples of new threats. Both officials believe that Europe must respond to these developments more swiftly and enhance its capabilities in the space sector.

Von der Leyen also highlighted the importance of international cooperation in this area, stressing the need to establish a legal and ethical framework for space activities. She noted that Europe should lead in this regard and serve as a model for other countries.
