Macron noted in this conference that "we are working to create a pipeline for the transfer of gas and oil from Iraq to the European market, in coordination with Iraq and Jordan." This project has been presented as an important step towards reducing Europe's dependence on energy resources from other countries, especially in the current energy crisis.
He also referred to the rising energy prices and their impact on citizens, adding: "The conflict in the Middle East exacerbates the energy crisis and increases the suffering of citizens due to rising gasoline and fuel prices." Macron emphasized that "the energy crisis is not just a French problem; it affects all countries on this continent."
Consequences of Russia's Attacks and Europe's Security
The President of France, referring to the discovery of a bomb-laden drone at Leipzig Airport in Germany this summer, stated that "the aim of these attacks is to intimidate us and undermine our efforts to support the Ukrainians. The result will be completely the opposite." He expressed confidence that Europe's security is dependent on the situation in Ukraine, saying: "We are not afraid because we know that our security, today and tomorrow, is at risk in Ukraine."
Macron also emphasized that France has no role in the ongoing conflicts between the United States and Iran but suffers from its consequences. He called for a diplomatic solution to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and stated: "We participated in an international mission to escort oil tankers and ensure their safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz."
